Chronic absenteeism has traditionally been defined as a student missing at least 10% of days in a school year. The pandemic has ushered in a new category of “extreme chronic absenteeism,” where a student is absent for 50% or more of school days. This is an urgent challenge for educators, administrators, and families. The good news is that many of the high-value practices for creating a strong school culture are also interventions for chronic absenteeism.
In this session, participants will learn/leave with:
- An understanding of the impact and factors related to chronic absenteeism
- Schoolwide practices shown to improve student attendance
- Individual-level high impact practices
